Well with Destiel, Dean is skilled in weapons and self defense and Cas can heal. Gwen and Owen are also skilled and weapons and Owen is a doctor, so he can heal too. They both have a very good chance of survival.

They didn’t have to, but they sort of did towards the beginning to their relationship.
